Increase Blog Traffic And Popularity With Blog-Walking

Blogwalking, a popular term among the Malaysian, Indonesian, and Philippines bloggers but a rather obscure term in other parts of the world. What is it actually?

What is blog-walking?
Blogwalking is a technique to increase blog traffic by visiting other blogs and leave your marks there. The other blogger is then expected to reciprocate by visiting your blog.

How to do blogwalking?
The starting point can be your own blog. Look at the comments. Commenter that have their own blogs are likely to leave their blog URL in the website details.

You can click on the links and visit their blogs. Some would be auto-blogs without any personal touch. You can safely ignore those and move to next blog. Browse around the blog and read the postings.

Then, to let the person know that you have visited, leave your mark there. If there is a shoutbox, just say something like “Blogwalking here. Please also visit my blog www.cheatad.com”.

Otherwise, look for comment box for articles and leave relevant comments. In fact, even if the site has shoutbox, there is no harm in leaving relevant comments for postings. Make sure the comment is relevant and useful addition to the discussion. Also make sure to put your URL in the website field, not as signature to the comment.

Benefits of blog walking
Generally, most bloggers are interested to know if people like their blogs, and appreciate your visit. They are likely to do a visit to your blog either out of curiosity or just as a courtesy. Either way, this will bring you some traffics, probably with some ads revenue, and improve your Alexa ranking.

The links you left behind will also be picked up by search engine crawlers, which means of additional backlinks to your site.

What else do I need to know about blogwalking?
Now, if during your blogwalk you find some interesting postings, there is no harm you link to the postings in your next article. If you really like the blogs, you can link to them in your blogroll. They will appreciate that and will probably also do the same for your blog.

Some blogwalkers like to click ads on walked-blog, and make sure you know it, and expect you to do the same. While it does not seem to be against the policy of ads network like Nuffnang, kliksaya, kumpulblogger or other ppc ads (as long as you don’t blatantly ask for the click), I personally finds it unethical. The clicks cost advertisers money, and if you click on ads just for the sake of clicking, it is akin to cheating the advertisers.

Nuffnang, a popular ads network among bloggers in Malaysia, Singapore and Philippines.

Aside from your own blog, there are actually a number of options for you to start with. You can visit a popular blog and go through the blogroll. Or you can start from blog exchange networks such as Nuffnang’s innit.

There is a fine line to be walked here. If you neither directly nor indirectly(=”show me some love”, “kiss me back” etc) invite anyone to click your ads or let them know you clicked theirs, but rather just write something along the line of “Hi xxx, how are you holding up? Missed you, hope to see you by my place later :) ” is that considered legitimate?
    Thanks :)
Naturally both parties want their ads to be clicked (in general I mean), but they do not utter it, either explicitly or implicitly, in the chatbox.

Yes yes. You write it better than I could. You are entirely right.

that nice. can u tell me how can i auto blog walking ?

That defeats the purpose of blogwalking isn’t it? So you just want to spam. That’s not right, bro.

  28. Vince says:

To be honest, I used to believe that blog-walking is the most effective way to have your blog known by other bloggers. But all it ever does is provide traffics which may be meaningless at times. The real deal is when a blogger gets a good flow of readership instead of traffic.

You see, people blog-walk with the intention of “luring” (pardon my choice of vocabulary) the other party back to his blog. It’s an exchange of traffic nevertheless, but for a blogger who goes all the way to script up a good blog post in hope that people hear his thoughts, blog-walking wouldn’t be of much significance.

Just my 2 cents worth of opinions! :)

  32. Fernando Hal says:

    That’s called spamming, not blogwalking.
