Observing Your Facebook Ethics

Social networking sites are sprouting like mushrooms from time to time. There are in fact a lot of teens who are getting hooked in social networking sites like Facebook, Multiply, Myspace, and more. We can’t deny the fact that these sites are one of the first web sites we open when we browse the Internet. Needless to say, social networking sites have also become very influential not only to adults, but also to teens.

Despite this craze, some of us may not notice that there are really hazards and disadvantages that one might encounter upon joining these social networking sites. Well, we should all be aware that once we involve ourselves in the Internet, our personal information will be shared to the public domain as well.

Because of these hazards, it is very important to observe one’s behavior when it comes to publishing personal information to the public. Well,  Facebook is one of the biggest social networking sites today. Thus, it is one of those that influence a lot a to one’s behavior. So what are the things that we actually have to observe when it comes to publishing your every personal material in Facebook? In a way, we can call these Facebook ethics.

Accepting Friends

Facebook friend requests are very random. There are moments that there are people whom you don’t know would actually add you as their friends. But, personally, I don’t entertain strangers. Like how I was advised to by my parents when I was kid, I should never entertain people I don’t know. That’s why I also have to apply that value or lesson while involving myself to these social networking sites.

Publishing My Status

By status, I don’t only mean the status or the shout out you write in your wall that automatically appears to your friends’ feeds. I also mean, your relationship status and the like. Updating my Facebook status is even well-timed. That is, I don’t publish everything I do. I don’t share every single thing I do. Well, stalkers, (when you just accept friend request from strangers) can have those personal information about you that they could use to bribe you or anything of the same sort.

Photo Sharing

Album Privacy. If you know this thing, then you’re safe. Facebook would actually allow strangers and stalkers to view you your photos even if they are not your friends. The best thing to do is to of course have your albums protected by optimizing your album privacy.

These are just three of the many important things that you should observe your ethics in. Facebook is advantageous in reuniting with old friends and could be very helpful in some other ways, but one should still always take note that it is in public, and therefore, one’s ethics should be observed.
