Importance of Keyword in Domain Name For Search Engine

For people out there that says keyword in domain is not important, think again, check your stats. Keyword in domain is important, specially in your website starting stages.

For any webmaster starting a new website, it is certainly an excitement to be waiting for your newly created website to be indexed by search engines such as Google, Yahoo, and Bing; well, unless you have big marketing budget to kick-start the website.

For the rest of us, we follow through an almost certain path of getting page by page indexed slowly and being sent coveted visitors, that slowly increase with time.

Here is the stages of how you will get visitors from search engine. We will use CheapDesk.Net as an example here:

  1. Approximately 2-3 days since you created your website and get it linked from an established website, you will get 2 or 3 visitors (most likely yourself) searching for exact domain name, e.g. cheapdesk.net or www.cheapdesk.net. Most likely you’d be ranked first on that search result.
  2. Soon after, in about another 2-3 days, you’ll start to get visitors from searching your domain name, but without the Tld, e.g. cheapdesk. You may or may not ranked first, but more likely on 2nd or 3rd of the result.
  3. After another update, you’ll get visitors searching your domain name, without Tld, and broken up into generic words it is made of, e.g. cheap desk.
  4. You’ll also start to notice visitors coming the plural forms of the search terms above, e.g. cheapdesks or cheap desks.
  5. At almost the same time, you are starting to get visitors searching for slight variation from the domain name, e.g. desk cheap, or with additional words e.g. cheap computer desk.
  6. The next exciting stage will be when you get visitors searching for keywords that form only part of your domain name, first with additional keyword, e.g. computer desk, then without any additional word, e.g. desk .
  7. Finally, you know your website has really took off when you receive significant search from keywords that doesn’t form or resemble part of your domain name, e.g. computer

I know, this is generalization, but every website I had, more or less, would go through those stages. What do you think?

Some people not only include one keywords domain , they enter more than one keywords which able to target more and more specific. That why nowadays, short domain name doesn’t mean good domain.
Such as singaporewebhosting blog. You can find out that the blog been years din update but still on the top of the PR. Why this happen ? Because of the Domain Name, The title of the blog. That why it help so much more than you get lot of backlink.
