Really. Not only because it’s faster. And not only because it’s more hip and trendier. And not just because it has much friendlier user interface than Microsoft Internet Explorer. But more than that, it’s because of the myriads range of indispensable add-on (also called plugins in Microsoft terminology) to help our job as webmasters. Best of them all, it’s free. Both the browser and the add-ons are free to download and use.

   What is it good for? Web developer add-ons will add a menu toolbar to your Firefox browser, containing a good range of functions, mostly to control how the webpages are loaded into your browser. You can, for example, load the page without Javascript, or see only the CSS style-sheet file.

   What is it good for? SearchStatus adds menu to your status bar. Using ScreenGrab, you can capture the webpage, either as partial screenshot of what you see in the window, just a selection, a particular frame or the entire page. You can either save the image as a file or copy the image to your clipboard.

Other highly popular plugins you may want to check out are SEOQuake, FireBug and GreaseMonkey. I rarely use them, except occasionally using FireBug to debug on javascript error or measuring loading-time bottleneck. Don’t get me wrong, these are superior plugins and are very useful to many webmasters. For me, I find them to complicated and intimidating.
