Twitter is undoubtedly the greatest web marketing engine of 2009. From a simple “What are you doing?”, twitter has now grown to includes everything from movies, web, making money, news and everything else you can think of, all within the 140 character limit.

If you don’t know yet, let me tell you that you can and should be using it already, in order to get more visitors, keep them engaged, and eventually make more money.

The term was micro blogging – small blogs with limited characters – but the term is rarely used anymore. Now, the word is twitting, meaning to post a short sentence to twitter.

That short sentence is called a tweet, while the action verb is twit. You retweet when you are reposting someone’s posting in your twitter account.

So to recap on the terminology:

Twitter is a service at twitter.com to allow users to create posts less than 140 characters, essentially answering the question “What are you doing?”

Twitting is the activity of using twitter, including posting to twitter profile.

Twit is action of posting, it’s what you do when you type in the 140 characters and click Update.

A tweet is the result of your twitting. So you twit a tweet to your twitter profile.

Retweet is retwitting someone else’s tweet.

In the last one hour, I have installed the ReTweet – a WordPress plugin to display the number of times your article has been reposted in your visitors’ twitter account – and Twitter Tools – a set of WordPress plugin allowing you to send your post automatically to your twitter account and vice versa.
