Refreshing The Search, Google Announce “Caffeine” Update

I’m nervous. Very nervous. With recent Google update – code named Caffeine – we don’t have much information to work on. I don’t know what to change, what to do, or even what to expect.

Google is known to constantly change their search algorithm, but the last time there is any update as major as this one was 3 years back. I have just started 3 years ago, so it didn’t have much effect for me. This time, will hundreds of thousands of visitors monthly, my livelihood is much at stake.

With few quick searches at http://www2.sandbox.google.com, I don’t see much difference for my main keywords. However, with few hundred thousand long tail keyphrases for my websites, who knows the impact for the smaller keywords.

Some users actually suggest that the Google Caffeine update is to counter Yahoo – Bing deals. Matt Cutts from Google trashed that suggestion.

Q: Is this Caffeine Update because of Company X or Y is doing Z?
A: Nope. I love competition in search and want lots of it, but this change has been in the works for months. I think the best way for Google to do well in search is to continue what we’ve done for the last decade or so: focus relentlessly on pushing our search quality forward. Nobody cares more about search than Google, and I don’t think we’ll ever stop trying to improve.

Will it be an opportunity or a challenge? Let’s follow closely and see what is going to happen.
