My Entrepreneurship Journey

Work From Home

Working From Home is Now Mainstream
By Fernando Hal (cheatad.com)

No, I don’t mean the entrepreneurial working from home type. I’m referring to this article ‘I had a meeting in the bath’ from Financial Times about employees of large corporations and government services working from home.

This trend of working at home has surely come a long way. It was previously only reserved for poor entrepreneurs, strapped of cash and can’t rent a proper office space. But now, many multi-national companies and public sector office alike are taking on this path.

As well described in the article :

Jeff Zbar has been working from home for 20 years but he recalls a sticky moment back in 1992. “I was on the phone with the founder of a fast-food chain: an older, very established, ivory-towers kind of guy,” says the writer and copywriter based in Florida. “The mailman came, the mail slammed down, the dog started barking, which made the baby start screaming and the executive said to me: ‘What, you work from home?’ There was disdain in his voice. The relationship went sour after that.”

Thanks to the advent of technology, now working at home is easier than ever. Cheap networking infrastructure, powerful personal computer makes lots of work can be done at home without any difference in the quality or time loss. Further encouraged by sky-high office space rental, economic collapse, and the move towards work-home balancing, it is easy to see why many people has spent at least some time working from home.

This article catched my attention because I thought it’s going to be a review online entrepreneurship, making money online, freelance, affiliate marketing, Google Adsense clickers or some data-entry jobs. It is not. However, it did make some good points.

And there are useful tips, suitably applied to anyone aspiring to quit day job, and work from the comfort of your home.

Here are some tips for working from home from the expert:
- Think thoroughly whether it is suitable for you
- Create your own work space
- Form an understanding with your family
- Find your best daily schedule
- Separate work and leisure time
- Arrange time to get out and meet people
- Motivate yourself because nobody else will
- Taking naps
