Drugs, Porn & Gambling
Comment spam: drugs, porn and gambling
by Fernando Hall (cheatad.com)
I have just looked at the blog comments trapped by my spam detector. Over 3000 spams detected within 1 week. That’s just amazing, isn’t it?
When I go through them, unsurprisingly, majority of them (more than 90%, perhaps) falls under these 3 categories: drugs, porn & gambling. I say unsurprising, because of these factors:
1. Everywhere you look, most of the spams in the Internet falls under these 3 categories. Emails, discussion boards, even social network like Facebook and Twitters.
2. The 3 categories are known (rightly or wrongly) for their high paying keywords and lucrative profits
3. Competition in the search engines for these categories is fierce due to the reason above
4. Many webmasters in the categories are working rather hard to build successful websites. Too bad, lots of what they learn are outdated black-hat search engine optimization strategies
5. (Maybe) since they are dealing with vice activities, adding another vice (spam) doesn’t bother them too much
What do you think? What are other possible reasons for this fenomena?
